Are athletes paid more than other professionals?

It is true that successful sports professionals can earn a great deal more money than people in other established professions.This may be because sports have close links with the entertainment industry .Let us see how.
Any profession requires ardent commitment and persistent hard work. Students who meet the required standard is able to qualify and be known as a professional in that particular field.He/she is able to avail all the benefits given to a member of that particular profession after qualifying, provided they uphold the code of conduct and professional competence as required by the respective regulatory body.Therefore the benefits that they receive are clearly justified.
However,It is a different scenario when it comes to sports professionals .They usually do not have a central regulatory authority in some countries and those countries which have them implement poor rules.It maybe because priority of a nation may not be always to promote a particular field of sport.
This lax in rules lead athletes to toy with standards expected from them and attain a celebrity-like status.It is true that it takes a lot of effort to become a quality athlete.But it requires character and ethics for him/her to survive in the long run.
This is amplified by the enviable ties that sports have to entertainment.People love to see their favourite athletes in the limelight, hence those athletes who are able to entertain audiences with tricks ,theatre and endorsements are able to get sponsors, media coverage and a heavy pay check.The irony is that is weeds out quality players who just can’t entertain, therefore it is a curse as well as a boon for sports professionals to be successful and earn a great deal while it is safer for other professionals.
