In some countries students are facilitated to work or travel for a year after high-school but before starting university studies.
This has become a popular phenomenon among students to take a break after their senior year exams. This time interval is known as a ‘gap year’ in most countries .One of the benefits of taking a gap year is that one gets a better view of what his/her interests are and decide on their future studies methodically. This can save the person from following the crowd and better explore his/her passion.
On the other hand, it can just prove to be a waste of time and worse, losing of interest in higher education altogether.
Continued education right from the kindergarten has helped students to attain necessary people and industry skills. If students were given a choice, then they would have bailed out right from the second day of school. But mandatory education education has helped them become better and mature students.
Coming back to the benefits ,students can fruitfully use this gap year to get valuable work-experience that they are deprived of at school. This time can also help them to prepare a glowing resume for their university studies.Travelling abroad during the gap year can be used to visit potential universities and employers.
In conclusion, a gap year can be of tremendous help as it can make ourselves goal-oriented.But again if we don’t pursue our interests during this period then there are chances that we might become aimless especially after dropping out from twelve years of rigorous education.
